Tour introduction

Travelling in the Mongolian Gobi desert would give you unforgettable landscape mixture of desert, mountainous terrain and vast steppe. We will explore the main places in Gobi: Tsagaan Suvarga, Yol valley, Khongor sand dunes and Bayanzag. Also we will visit the historical place Kharkhorin, ancient capital of Mongolia and Erdenezuu monastery. Day by day itineraries

Day1. Arrive in Mongolia and city tour in Ulaanbaatar (Abbreviation: UB) (D)

Upon arrival at the Chinggis Khan international airport in Mongolia, you will meet Visit Mongolia crew and transfer to the hotel***, conveniently located downtown Ulaanbaatar. After freshening up from your flight, we start our first day around Ulaanbaatar starting from Gandan Monastery, the largest and most important monastery of Mongolia with 500 monks. From here we will go to the National History Museum which tells the rich history of Mongolia. Then we will see Mongolian traditional concert at 6pm. Welcome to the dinner. Stay in hotel***

Day2. Tsagaan Suvarga, White stupa (B/L/D)

We will drive to Tsagaan Suvarga. The scarp of Tsagaan Suvarga is located in Ulziit soum of Dundgobi province. It is interesting to see the sheer slope, facing east, which from cliff is 30 meters high and 100 meters wide. Over  thousands of years the wind has created this amazing structure. Stay in ger camp (about 410kms)

Day3. Yol valley and small hiking (B/L/D)

In the early morning we will drive to South Gobi and visit to Yol Valley.The Vulture Canyon, which nestles between the beautiful peaks of Gurvansaikhan of the Three Beauties. After arrival at the canyon, we will take 2-hour hike through the canyon and maybe able to see parts of a glacier left over from the winter months. On our way in/out of the park we can visit the local Natural History Museum where dinosaur eggs and bones, petrified trees and a snow leopard are on display. Overnight in ger camp (about 260 kms)

Day4. Khongor sand dunes and camel riding (B/L/D)

Visit to the Bayanzag area. Known as a Flaming Cliffs "Cradle of Dinosaurs" this is where the first nest of dinosaur eggs ever discovered was found in 1922. A site famous for the remains of dinosaur that lived here 60 million years ago. You can walk around where dinosaurs once roamed and see saxaul trees and other classic desert vegetation. Overnight in ger camp (about 150 kms)

Day5. Bayanzag or Flaming cliffs and walking around (B/L/D) 

Visit to the Bayanzag area. Known as a Flaming Cliffs "Cradle of Dinosaurs" this is where the first nest of dinosaur eggs ever discovered was found in 1922. A site famous for the remains of dinosaur that lived here 60 million years ago. You can walk around where dinosaurs once roamed and see saxaul trees and other classic desert vegetation. Overnight in ger camp (about 150 kms)

Day6. Ongi temple ruins (B/L/D)

We will drive to Ongi temple. Ongiin Khiid is known as complex of ruins of two monasteries called Barlim Khiid and Khutagt Khiid. There is not much left to see, but there are plenty of interesting ruins to explore and one of the monasteries is rebuilt recently. Overnight in ger camp (about 150 kms)

Day7. Kharkhorin and Erdenezuu monastery (B/L/D)

In the morning, we will drive to the Karakorum, the site of the ancient capital of the Great Mongolian Empire. The city served as the Mongolian capital for only 40 years (until when Khubilai Khaan moved it to what is now Beijing). Most of the city was later destroyed by Chinese soldiers during the second half of 14th century. And the remnants of the city were used to build the ErdeneZuu Monastery in the 16th century. Upon arrival in Karakorum the first and most obvious landmark is the massive walls of the Erdenezuu Monastery, which was the first Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. After lunch at local restaurant, we take cultural tour at Erdenezuu Monastery. It was built in 1586 by the initiative AbtaiSain Khan, on the spot where Kharkhorin had been. The monastery is surrounded by 400x400 m stonewalls with 108 stupas. The stone columns, blocks and sculptures excavated from the ruins of the city show that various building materials were used in the construction of this monastery. At its height, the ErdeneZuu monastery had up to 62 temples, 500 other buildings and gers with about 1000 lamas inside the walls. Now the monastery displays the best of Buddhist architecture and many of religious art works. We will firstly visit this monastery museum, which houses the best of Buddhist architecture and religious art works. Overnight in ger camp (about 290 kms)

Day8. Drive back to UB via Khustai National park (B/L)

Today we will drive back to UB. On the way we will visit to Khustai NP. The park lies in the foothills of southern Khentii mountain range and it is the place where you can see wild horse called Takhi known as Przewalski horse to the world. The wild horses survive in nature by themselves because they have been reintroduced successfully to their homeland after 40 years of extinction. Currently, the number of Takhi has already reached more than 300. Visit to local museum. Stay in hotel*** (About 400 kms)

Day9. Departure (B)

Transfer to the airport for your departure.
